I was smiling stupidly as I opened the door to the barn where Toby was waiting for me.
Ice had asked me if I'd ever done it doggystyle, and I hadn't, so when I'd gotten the wine out of my airways, I told him so.
Incidentally, I still hadnât.
His eyes darkened when I confessed that before him, I had indeed not really done anything but a very awkward missionary. I thought he'd take me upstairs to his bedroom immediately, but he didn't. Instead, he simply nodded, asked if I wanted some more wine and turned the conversation to the various camping trips Toby and I had been on over the years. Then we discussed snowshoeing, which I wasnât very good at.
He touched me every now and then as we talked, but not in a sleazy way. His fingers slid over my hand when I reached for the salad. Over my cheek, when we laughed about an incident while Toby and I kayaked in the goddamned Puget sound. By the end of the meal, I was hot and bothered, and started to wonder if I should perhaps find the courage to yell at him to just do me.
Then I saw the hint of a smile in his eyes and tilted my head to the side to look carefully at him.
âYouâre doing this deliberately,â I stated.
âDoing what?â he said with a grin.
âYou know what.â
âI thought you werenât very sexual,â he said with a broader grin.
âIce,â I murmured and tried to not giggle like a silly young girl.
I failed, and his face softened.
âBaby, we both know what I said that day when you told us about Toby, and Iâm so sorry about that. I was an ass, and Iâll try not to be one again.â
âIâm sorry too,â I said quietly. âI came here to snoop. To my defense, I didnât think anything would come out of it, but I should have told you.â I hoped my smile wasnât a wobbly as it felt, and went on, âI get that Toby was a surprise to you, but Ice... you were such a surprise to me.â
âBabe,â he murmured. âNo need to apologize. I should have handled it better, and out of all the dumb things I threw out there that day, thereâs one thing that I really wish I could unsay.â He put a hand on my cheek and moved his thumb gently. âI really want you to call me Petter.â
âOkay,â I whispered. âI can do that.â
âGood,â he said and leaned forward toward me. âIâm going to like hearing it when youâre naked in my bed.â He brushed his mouth over mine, and mumbled, âWant to hear you moan it when I slide inside.â
Which I had done. Repeatedly and through the night.
I had even asked him about doggystyle, but since I felt embarrassed about saying the actual word out loud, I'd hummed around it and figured he'd get what I meant.
âBabe,â he said and rolled over to his back. âNot gonna do a position you canât even say the name of.
